Starting a Business in a Pandemic

Ever since the young age of 14-years-old, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I wanted my own brand, my own customers/clients, and a unique business I could call my own. Now at 19-years-old, I am so happy to say I finally did it! Who would’ve ever thought that a global pandemic, economic crisis, amidst racial injustice, riots, and protesting would push me to start a business? Definitely not me! My business, Christa Couture: Custom Creations is all about self-expression, creativity, and fashion. I create custom apparel for people of all ages. I absolutely love creating and crafting. Whether it’s art, music, writing, dancing, drawing, or apparel creating is a big part of me. It allows me to let my creativity flow. It enables me to express myself and allow other people to do the same thing. I make unique t-shirts for families, friend groups, bridal showers, anniversaries, individuals, Greek organizations, college students, birthday parties, you name it. For a long time I was afraid of starting a business and it not being successful. I was faced with different challenges like needing to buy equipment, balancing academics, personal life, and a business, and how I would execute the various ideas that I had in my mind. I wondered and wrote what seemed like a thousand business plans and never went through with it. I got extremely busy with life and put my business idea on the back burner. Then, the weirdest time period of life happened. The coronavirus significantly shifted life as we know it. But this slight interruption of our own agendas and schedules has led to its own challenges as well as new blessings and opportunities. In May, I decided that I would invest the money I had collected to start my business and I did just that. I didn't tell anyone, I just went for it. I purchased the equipment and began creating. Within weeks I was creating quality t-shirts. Over the past few years, I learned that whatever God has for you is for you no matter what negative thoughts your brain may come up with or who’s in the same business as you. When you have a vision and a talent, come up with a plan, pray about it, put God first, and then run with it. If you want to start your own business I want to encourage you. Even in a weird and uncomfortable time like this, you can still do it. Do it scared. Do it regardless of who else is in the same business or field as you. Be original. Promote yourself even when you get 1 like and no comments. Put your gifts to use and execute your plans. If you ask God for help and guidance he will give you ideas, supporters, and whatever else you need to be successful in business. I am beyond excited to serve my customers, to improve and build a bigger selection of products and services, but most importantly to do something that I love so much. You can order your custom t-shirt on my website at www.christajenae.wixsite.com/christacouture or you can message me at 912-421-1517 with your custom t-shirt design. With Love,

Christa J.
